FAQs

What is Rhythmic Gymnastics (RG)?

Rhythmic Gymnastics is for women and girls of all ages. It is the perfect combination of sport and art. RG is a sport that combines elements of ballet, gymnastics, dance and apparatus manipulation. Each movement involves a high degree of athletic skill. Physical abilities needed by a rhythmic gymnast include strength, power, flexibility, agility, dexterity, endurance and hand-eye coordination. This athleticism is linked with expressive dance steps, dynamic elements (walkovers and cartwheels) and skillful manipulations of the ball, rope, hoop, ball, ribbon and clubs: throw, spin, spiral, roll and catch. Rhythmic Gymnastics can be performed individually or in groups of up to 5 gymnasts. Rhythmic Gymnastics develops posture and confident body movements for sport and life. It enhances co-ordination and agility, for body awareness and balance. RG builds self-confidence and creativity. The sport increases flexibility and strength and develops healthy minds and bodies.

What should my daughter wear to an Illusion class?

We do not require the girls to wear a matching uniform for recreational classes. Most of the gymnasts wear a gymnastics/dance leotard or tank top & shorts. The participants should be barefoot (no footed tights). Competitive athletes generally wear a practice bodysuit and shorts.

What should my daughter bring to an Illusions class?

Water bottle (filled) with your daughter’s name on it.

Do I need to stay and watch my daughter’s class?

2012 & 2013 – This class is un-parented but we ask parents to watch from a distance in case they need bathroom breaks etc.
2011-2009 & 2008+ – Parents are welcome to stay or leave and come back at the end of class. Please make sure your contact information is up-to-date if you do plan to leave.

Do I need to buy any equipment (ball, ribbon, rope or hoop) for recreational class?

No. Illusions provides all of the equipment for the recreational classes.

How will I know if a class is cancelled (holiday or weather-related)?

Email correspondence is sent out to all Illusions’ families at the start of each recreational session. This correspondence includes a list of Holiday dates. Weather-related cancellations are emailed out to families, posted on our website and on our social media networks (Facebook & Twitter) as soon as the cancellation is confirmed.

Can my daughter come and try a class to see if she likes it?

Of course, we are more than happy to have your daughter come and try a class. If she likes it and there is space in the class, you can register your daughter for the current session. Otherwise we will put her on a waitlist for the next session.

Can I register my daughter mid-way through a session?

Yes, as long as we have space in our recreational classes, we are always looking to add to our Illusions family and will pro-rate your fees. Competitive programming commences each year in June.

Can I pay by credit card?

Unfortunately we only accept cash or cheque at this time.

Can I claim Illusions classes under the Healthy Living Tax Credit?

Yes! We issue tax receipts that can be used towards the Healthy Living Tax Credit.
